so i had a buddy with a 1990 GMC Sierra and man those things had issues. the most common prob was the timing belt, it’d snap easy and if you forget to change it, big trouble. and the fuel pumps go bad too, mine went out in the middle of nowhere. the engines just give up sometimes, especially if not maintained well.
but another thing—there’s this tendency for the electrical system to be finicky. headlights flicker or don’t work right. anyone else had issues with their suspension? mine was so beat up, made the ride super rough. oh and the brakes too. they just don’t last.
at least the body’s pretty solid though. i was driving one that was dented all over but it still drove fine. so how did your Sierra hold up? any other probs or did mine just have bad luck?
I’ve owned a '90 GMC Sierra in Seattle and swear the rust starts eating the undercarriage faster than a hungry college kid! Head gaskets and weak suspensions were a bummer, too. Glued on with hopes it lasts til frosty beards start growing, ha! We’ve all been there, waiting for it to die but held off by sheer stubborn love.
I’ve got experience with a ‘90 Sierra outta Michigan. Frequent issues are electrical gremlins—dashboard lights flicking off—and a wonky transmission. One time, I snapped the serpentine belt—guess it’s part of the charm. Oil leaks annoy me, and rust shows up when least expected. Anyone else getin’ those pesky vibes with their old trucks?
Growing up in Texas, I’ve seen plenty of '90 Mercs, including my bro’s 1990 GMC Sierra. The timing chain issues were killer—replacement’s pricey! Also, electrical gremlins! The dash lights went bonkers more than once. Suspension acted up too, especially back in the alleys of Chicago. Overall, worth the troubles for some, but it’s not heavy-duty’s newest champ. Still, ain’t too tough to love that classic ride!
I’ve owned a '90 GMC Sierra in Middle Tennessee and man, the issues come in waves. From the slipping transmission (swapped it thrice) to the notorious rust in the floorpans, this truck eats parts. Suspension feels like holding a start-up company too—crazy debts everywhere! In wintertime, heater acts up more than a teenager on a school morning. Sometimes I feel like I need a mechanic on salary just to keep it running. But, hey, it’s a classic. Problem is cute!
Back in '96 in Kentucky, I’ve always had trouble with the ABS system on my '90 GMC Sierra. And those engine mounts? Seem to break once every summer. I have mates around Michigan with the same gripes, so I’m not alone!
Oh man, I’ve had my fair share of trouble with my 1990 GMC Sierra out here in Nevada. Oil leaks are a biggie—seems like they can’t seem to seal right. Then there’s rusting; drives me nuts! My dad swore by it but, man, I’ve had to replace parts more times than I like. It’s a solid truck, just needs TLC. Anyone else feel the same?
I’ve got a 90’er GMC Sierra from Minnesota, and boy, it’s been a journey! Electrical issues are a no-brainer; headlights flicker like crazy. Plus, the fuel pump acts up, often needing a swap-out after a few months. I remember when the timing belt snapped, nearly destroyed the engine! It’s a classic DIY project that sucker-punched my wallet. Yet, she’s a beast to drive. Gotta love the old tough expressions despite the headaches!
I’ve got a solid memory of a '90 GMC Sierra from Texas. The old girl had a bomb engine but, heck, threw a rod and wrecked the block. Turned out rust was its nemesis in the southern heat, and water pumps decided to quit on me even in Canada. Every 90 Sierra I meet has an oil leak or bad timing chain. Nostalgia doesn’t make it magic, does it? Still loved that truck’s raw power tho.
Back in '98 in Calgary, I had one of those '90 Sierras, ended up swapping the tranny twice in a year. Rust was a big pain too—lotsa body issues. Worst ride I’ve owned, but man did it haul!
Living in Texas, I’ve had some trouble with my '90 Sierra’s Head Gasket—a real pain in the behind. Blocked catalytic converter was another headache! Anyone else dealing with this stuff?
Back in my days in Ontario, I had an '90 GMC Sierra that was a real handful. The paint started flaking off like mad, especially near the wheel wells. I’ve heard some folks had tranny issues, too. Didn’t see mine go kaput, but the electrical gremlins were no joke—lights flickering like the Aurora Borealis. Nuts and bolts work like wizards with these trucks. Still, I loved that beast. I’ve had better luck with newer models though!
Got a '90 GMC Sierra back home in Texas. Oil leaks like crazy and timing chains are noisy. Blown head gaskets too common, drove me nuts! Anyone had luck fixing these without breaking the bank?
I’ve got a ‘90 GMC Sierra, had it since ‘95, Vermont. These trucks are tough, but the electrical system gets sketchy after a few years. Dead batteries and busted alternators are no joke. We all know ‘em as “Gremlin Trucks” joke. Rust can be a pain, too, eatin’ up the undercarriage. Love this ol’ beast, but it’s a money pit when somethin’ goes wrong. Best to keep an eye on the warnin’ lights!
I’ve owned a '90 GMC Sierra here in Canada, and man, the transmission is always a headache! Timing chain rattle’s another beast. If you took care of it, basic maintenance went a long way. Luck for me! Wished I knew the head gasket issue back then—it’s a real pain.
Back in '97, I had a '90 Sierra, and man, the transmission was a nightmare. Constant slipping issues, especially in the cold of Canada. I heard radiator problems were big too, especially in the US, with folks in the South complaining it overheated often. Rust was a killer on those rust belt souped-up pickups too. She was a great truck, but a handful for sure!
I’ve owned a '90 GMC Sierra in Texas and the electrical system was a nightmare! Always had issues with the gauges going haywire. Throttle linkage was another headache, kept cutting out. Love my truck, but these issues are a real pain in the rear. Good luck, y’all!
I’ve driven a '90 GMC Sierra in Texas and trustworthy transmission issues. Found lots of rust at the start, but the powertrain steely. But man, those electrical gremlins - worst! Shoot for a solid maintenance check schedule. Oh, and the radio’s a silent fart.
Back in '95, I had a '90 GMC Sierra in Ohio, and the timing chain issue was a total nightmare. Always had to carry a spare, never know when it’d act up! Those exhaust manifolds rusted fast too, if you ask me. Yeah, GVWR should’ve had an update!
In '94, I had a '90 GMC Sierra in Seattle. Major issues with the transfer case acting up and some rust creeping up the frame. Engine sometimes won’t start without a little coaxing! Always had an adventure in that truck!
