so i had this '08 Nissan Maxima and boy did i run into a bunch of issues. the most annoying one was the check engine light coming on all the time. it was like, hello!? i took it to the mechanic and turns out the catalytic converter was shot. they replaced it but man that was expensive.
and then theres the transmission problems. mine started acting up after like a year. it would hesitate when i shifted gears… you would think a car that pricey wouldnt do that right? it was super frustrating, had to get it towed a few times.
also, the AC was like broken. it was blowing hot air even on full blast. dude, in the middle of summer!? i think i replaced the compressor myself because mechanics wanted way too much cash for it.
how about you guys? did you have similar problems? and what did you do about it?
I’ve got a buddy in Toronto and his 08 Nissan Maxima is a sneaky little gremlin. We’re talking engine light popping up like a jack-in-the-box and failing the smog check more than a hustler in Vegas. Plus, the AC turns into a mozzie haven, and don’t get me started on the overheating drama, hotter than a barbecue on the Fourth of July. So, yeah, those Maximas sure can be a handful!
In NY, my '08 Maxima’s AC gave out like it was a hot April! Plus, the transmission was jerky. Heard similar tales ‘bout the suspension issues causing a ride rough. Anyone else had the same luck? Just gotta keep those wheels turnin’!
I’ve got this '08 Nissan Maxima in Vancouver, and it’s been quite a journey! Had a few issues with the transmission – feels lazy sometimes when shifting gears. AC went kaput in the middle of summer! But overall, it’s a solid ride. Any other Maxima owners out there in the USA or Canada dealing with similar stuff? Would love to swap stories!

I’ve gotta say, my '08 Nissan Maxima here in Toronto’s been a bit of a headache. Started having turbo issues after a couple years—had to get a new one which was a pain. Plus, folks talk about the SUVs in same family having rust probs, heard some say airbag alerts too. But hey, it still drives fine, just expect some quirks along the way.
I’ve owned an '08 Nissan Maxima here in Calgary for years now. The AC started leaking on me after a couplea winters, and the front brakes were acting up too. Heard from neighbors that the CVT transmission issues are pretty common. But the Maxima drives smooth and peels well when it’s in good shape! Just pack some patience and cash for repairs.
I’ve got a '08 Maxima in LA, and man, it’s been a trip. That transmission’s been driving me nuts — jerks like crazy sometimes. Aircon acts up too, keeps freezing up. Also, the check engine light pops up every now and then. Anyone else feeling the same here or me alone? Guess I’m not, but still annoying!
I’ve driven a ‘08 Nissan Maxima in Toronto for years, and it’s been mostly smooth. Had trouble with the AC blowing out dead cold sometimes and a weird rattle coming from the engine bay. But overall, it’s a solid ride — getting best mpg out of it still! Holdin’ up real well for me. Anyone else got their own vibes with theirs?
In Colorado, I’ve been driving my '08 Maxima 5 years now. The tranny had issues after 70k miles; took forever to shift. Lights in the dash act wonky too. Battery is ghosting out slower than I expected. But, the ride’s comfy; handles well in the Rockies! I’ve seen others say suspensions are annoying around here, especially in the snow. Yet, mine’s solid so far! Heard some also mention AC problems, hope mine doesn’t act up!
I had an '08 Nissan Maxima in Ohio, and the AC sucked majorly; always a trip to the repair shop! Also, had a hard time with the VQ35 engine overheating. Super annoying when you’re cruising!
I’ve had this '08 Nissan Maxima since '09 right here in Texas, and yes, those electrical gremlins can be a pain, especially with the dashboard lights flickering. Also, had some trouble with vibrations while driving. Nothing too major, but it happens. Other folks in Canada seem to be having trouble with the AC too, I heard. Just stay on top of maintenance!
I’ve owned an 08 Nissan Maxima here in Canada, and let me tell ya, it’s been a mixed bag. The transmission issues are real—constantly changing—super annoying. Love the ride tho, and yeah, not the best MPG, but can’t beat that style. Just need to keep an eye on the blinker stalk burning. Anyone else experienced this?
I’ve got a '08 Maxima in Detroit and the transmission’s always been a pain. Power loss around 40,000 miles and lots of head banging for a fix. Car’s solid though, got great gas mileage. Anyone else with stories? They’re not a lemon but need TLC.
I’ve had my '08 Nissan Maxima for years, and ya, it’s been a mixed bag. The transmission can be a pain, like sometimes it just shifts like it’s got a mind of its own. Plus, the check engine light pops up more than I like. Mind you, been to a few mechanics in Ontario, and they all seem to nod at those same issues. But the ride’s been comfy enough when it’s running smoothly!
I’ve got an 08 Nissan Maxima here in Texas, and it’s been quite a ride. Had some issues with the transmission—felt like it just gave up on me sometimes, ya know? Also, the electrical system’s been acting up, lights flickering like crazy. But overall, a decent car if you catch it early! Anyone else dealt with similar stuff up north or around here? Hope we can trade some tips!
I’ve had my '08 Nissan Maxima in Toronto and ran into issues with the transmission slipping. My buddy in Texas mentioned battery problems, too. Guess these are pretty common hiccups with this model—always something! Sharing repairs costs here makes it a bit easier to manage.
In my neck of the woods (Chicago), the '08 Nissan Maxima’s AC unit acts up, fails after a few summers. Also, heard someone rant about engine mods causing stalls. Lot of us RN swapping parts just to keep her running, can’t ignore the transmission quirks—feels like falling into quicksand when I shift.
I have an 08 Nissan Maxima up in Toronto, and man, oh man, there are some issues. Timing belt had to be replaced early, like way sooner than everyone else. Had an oil leak that gave me a nightmare; thought it wasn’t serious but ended up in the shop twice. Suspension’s been giving me grief too — hit a big pothole and boom, repairs. Electric windows in the driver’s seat were whack too. Hope that helps!
I’ve had this '08 Nissan Maxima in Canada and the transmission issue was a real nightmare. The power loss on the highway’s spot on. Lots of folks here have the same probs, so maybe there’s a recall we didn’t notice!
I’ve had my 08 Maxima in Texas—these things drink gas like crazy and the transmission feels like it’s on its last legs. Heard lots of similar gripes; it’s like a never-ending maintenance saga, man. Trust me, I’ve changed more than just tires!
