What are common issues with Jeep Wrangler TJ starter?

Hey, so I’ve been having some issues with my Jeep Wrangler TJ starter. It’s like it’s got a mind of its own. Sometimes it cranks slow or just won’t crank at all. Thought it was the battery at first but charged it up and didn’t help. It turns out, and I swear, the starter motor is just being lazy.

When it’s cold, it’s like it hates life or something. And did you ever hear about the solenoid thing? One of my buddies said his starter went kaput because the solenoid was bad. Takes a bit of looking under the hood to figure it out. And man, the wiring harness on the TJ, it’s a pain to deal with. And it’s not cheap to replace.

Do you think it’s the temperature that messes with it, or just old age? And how do you even test if it’s the alternator or something else messing with the starter? Anybody else had this kind of trouble? Maybe it’s just the way they were made back then.

In my experience up in Canada, the Wrangler TJ starter can be real finicky, especially in colder climates. I’ve seen a lot of folks blaming it on the weather, but it’s those old relays and weak grounds that usually let folks down. Just keep a jump kit handy!

I’ve got a Jeep Wrangler TJ here in Seattle and the starter’s been a real pain. Had it replaced like twice in three years. Everyone in my rally group’s got the same issue—sounds like it’s a common pain point for Jeepleheads. I heard it’s the wiring or maybe the relay. Hope this post helps all you TJ folks out there! Always good to share the Jeep love and struggles, right?

Man, I’ve had a couple of rough times with my Jeep Wrangler TJ starter—living in Ohio doesn’t exactly help with harsh winters. I’ve heard the cold brings out issues fast. Apparently, corrosion and the weak solenoids are big players in this drama. My buddy’s starter went kaput faster than you can say ‘JEEP!’, but a sturdy replacement fixes it right up. It’s a bugbear, but dealing with those fixes is part of the Wrangler life.

I’ve had issues with my Jeep Wrangler TJ starter hitting me hard in Denver. Frustrating when you’re in a hurry, right? Always a game of electrical wires and greasy bolts! Car camping was nearly wrecked until I got it fixed. Feels like a delicate balancing act every time.

Lived in Canada for years and let me tell ya, the Jeep Wrangler TJ starter is a hot mess. I’ve had my fair share of trouble with it, especially in the cold weather! Seems like the starter just gives up, right? One minute it’s going, next ya have to baby it with a jump-start. It’s pretty annoying, especially when I’m stuck out on the Trans-Canada highway. Jeep folks, what do ya do? Any tricks up your sleeve? It’s not just me with this problem.

I’ve been in Connecticut and seen my fair share of Jeep Wrangler TJ starters failin’ out there. It’s crazy how often the starter motor or solenoid goes out, probably b/c of all the hillin’ the roads here do. I’ve tried swapping out parts but kept runnin’ into issues with poor wiring or corroded connections too. Another thing that gets me is those aftermarket parts, they bout fall apart in no time. So, regular checks are a must, or you’ll get more drama than you bargined fer.

I’ve got a couple of experiences with a Jeep Wrangler TJ starter. Ran into issues a few times in Alberta, Canada. The cold weather here ain’t too kind to 'em, y’know? Had to deal with corrosion and sometimes the key barrel was too loose, making starting a pain. Luckily, a buddy with some welding skills fixed that up. But man, if it could start in the morning in Canada… A wise man said, if it ain’t broken, just frozen. Ha! Love the power of Jeep but starting’s a real test sometimes.

I’ve got a buddy in Alberta who’s had it rough with his Jeep Wrangler TJ’s starter. My gear kept locking up when the weather turned nasty. Seems like rust’s a big problem around here—those starter parts aren’t exactly made for -30 temps. We all swap tips on how to keep 'em running, mostly around keeping 'em dry and lubed. Trust me, ain’t no fun waiting in the cold!

I’ve had my fair share of frustrating mornings with my Jeep Wrangler TJ in Boise, Idaho. The darn starter’s ghosted me like 3 times this year! Power only flickering when trying to fire it up. Pretty sure I’m not the only one. Rust and moisture can be real sneaky in those starter connections, right? Anyone else get it fixed yet?

I’ve got a buddy in Toronto whose Jeep Wrangler TJ starter gave up on him last winter—real headache. Seems like they’re notorious for dying out cold, so keep some jumper cables handy. Lately, I’ve seen more convo about that here in the States too. Regular battery swaps is what I do now, just part of that TJ life.

I’ve got a 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ and been drivin’ it around Montana for years. The starter can be a real pain to deal with, ya know? Often, it kicks the bucket after a few years and I’ve heard a lot of folks complainin’ about the brushes wearin’ out quicker than they should. It’s pretty rough when you’re already behind somewhere and Satan refuses to start up. That little hiccup ends up turning into a full-on adventure to fix it. Keeps me on my toes, for sure.

I’ve got a buddy in Ontario dealing with a starter issue on his Jeep Wrangler TJ. Seemed like every time he hit the cold months, the starter motor’d give up. New solenoid and brushes done the trick but those cold morning starts were killer. Been a real bummer for any baby of the outdoor weekend warrior fam.
