so, my buddy had a 1997 ford f-150, and that thing was a tank, but man, the transmission gave us hell. like, it would slip outta gear outta nowhere. one minute we were cruising, and next minute, it felt like we were driving a go-kart. you ever had that happen?
also, the 1st and 2nd gears? they were like the worst couple ever. always arguing and refusing to cooperate. my friend tried changing the fluid, thinking that would fix it, but nope. still a hot mess.
anyone else dealt with those problems? or is it just us? i feel like we could start a support group or something.
I’ve had my 1997 F-150 for about five years, and I’ve definetly seen my share of transmission issues. The slipping gears and rough shifts can be super frustrating, especially during daily drives around Ohio. It seems like those earlier models had issues with the transmission fluid overheating and that can lead to bigger problems. Overall, it’s been a mixed bag for me, but I still love the old truck!
I’ve had quite a few issues with my 97 F-150 here in Texas. The transmission slips a lot, especially when it’s hot out. I also notice it hesitates shifting into reverse sometimes. But I love the truck overall; it’s been reliable in tough conditions!
I’ve a 97 F-150 that’s given me some headaches. The slipping when shifting gears is a pain, and I’ve also noticed the fluid leaks. But man, it’s been reliable otherwise. Can’t help but love that engine!
Ive got a 97 F-150 up in Michigan, and I’ve defenitely experienced some transmission issues. The slipping gears and harsh shifts are super common. One time, I thought I was gonna get stuck on the highway! Overall, I love the truck, but these problems can be super frustrating. Just gotta stay on top of maintenance, I guess! Anyone else had similar experiences?
I’ve had my 97 F-150 for years, and the transmission slipping was a real pain! Driving around Michigan, I noticed it was worst in winter. Still love the truck, just wish the trans was more reliable.
I’ve seen a few 1997 F-150s with slipping transmissions here in Michigan. Leaky seals seem pretty common too. Still love the truck’s durability, though! Wish they didn’t have these issues.
I’ve heard a lot about slipping transmissions on the '97 F-150. My buddy’s truck had that issue in Ohio. So frustrating!

Ah, the 1997 Ford F-150. I’ve had my share of issues with the transmission down here in Texas. My truck started slipping gears outta nowhere! Also, the torque converter is a big problem. I’ve heard many folks say the same. It’s a classic truck, but those transmission quirks sure can be a pain!
I ve had my 1997 F-150 for years, and the transmission slipping every so often is super annoying! But gotta admit, the truck’s still got heart. Love it!
I’ve had my 97 F-150 for years in Michigan, and the transmission slips whenever it’s cold. My buddy had the same issue. It’s kinda frustrating but still my favorite truck for hauling stuff!
