What are common issues with the moteur toyota rav4 essence 1998?

so, I remember when I first got my 98 rav4, thought I was the king of the road. But then one day, it just wouldn’t start. Turns out the fuel pump was acting all crazy. It was like it had a mind of its own, just like my cat when she sees a laser dot.

And then there’s the weird noise, like a cat crying under the hood. My buddy was like “dude, your car’s possessed.” So, yeah, the timing belt can be a pain too. Mine was shredding like old cheese before I even knew it was a thing.

Have any of you faced crazy issues like that? Or is it just me getting the lemon of the bunch? Also, what’s up with the rust? I thought these things were made of magic or something.

I’ve had my 98 RAV4 for a couple of years in Canada and those oil leaks can be a pain.

I ve heard about the head gasket issues too. It’s tough but I love the space.

I’ve had my 98 RAV4 in Canada for years and the engine definitely has its quirks I’ve noticed valve cover leaking a bit and the idle can be rough sometimes. Still runs good though so I guess it balances out. Gotta love those old Toyotas.

had my 98 rav4 in Canada and the engine started making weird noises around 150k miles oil leaks too

not the worst car tho I guess

I ve had a 1998 RAV4 for years in Canada and the oil leak issue is so annoying

Had to replace the head gasket last summer

Also the fuel pump seems weak sometimes

I ve had my 98 RAV4 since 2000 in Canada and it’s been a mixed bag. Loved it for its size and reliability but man the engine can be a pain. I remember driving through snowy days and it had some weird knocking noise sometimes.

Friends mentioned issues with oil leaks too which I found surprising. Still it gets me where I need to go most days. Just a classic little beast really.

Driving my 98 RAV4 in Canada I’ve noticed occasional oil leaks like clockwork Seems like a common problem with this model

But hey it still gets me to work and back can’t complain too much

I remember my buddy had a 98 RAV4 and it was a champ for a while then just started having weird issues in the cold winters of Canada.

Like the oil leaks and some electrical gremlins that popped up outta nowhere.

Still I think they have a certain charm to em.

I ve had my 98 RAV4 for over a decade and honestly loved it but the engine sometimes feels like a stubborn mule in winter downsizing power

Also the fuel pump is a total drama queen always needing attention after too many road trips I guess reliable is subjective

Had a 98 RAV4 back in Massachusetts. Great car but I’ve dealt with some annoying issues like frequent oil leaks and the weird electrical problems. I remember getting stranded once because the battery just died out of nowhere. Still love how reliable they can be though.

ive driven a 98 rav4 in Canada and man the gas mileage was decent but I’ve faced some weird engine stalling issues at lights not fun at all. also the rust on the undercarriage isn’t charming either honestly.

Had a 98 RAV4 in Canada and loved it for a while but the engine started making weird noises after a few years. My neighbor had the same issue guess it’s common. I’ve also heard about oil leaks being a pain. Overall it was a decent ride but those quirks got annoying.
