What are common issues with the 88 f150 white xlt model?
so I had this 88 f150 white xlt and loved it, until it started acting up. the transmission had a habit of slipping at the worst times, like when I was trying to impress my buddies. fuel pump went out too, and man, that was a pain to fix. got stranded once, and you can bet I wasn’t the coolest guy in town that day.
but that ain’t all. the electrical stuff was like a horror movie, flickering lights and all. talk about annoying, right? I’ve read others say they had rust problems too. I guess all those winters take their toll. do you think rust is really that bad, or am I just overthinking it?
and let’s not forget the brakes, they always felt a bit squishy. I swear sometimes they could just be suggestions instead of real brakes. anyone else feels the same about this model, or am I just being a drama king
had an 88 f150 in Michigan loved it but man that rust was a pain and dont get me started on the fuel pump issues I ve seen a few break down on the side of the road
Had an 88 F150 XLT in Texas it was tough but the rust issues were unreal especially around the wheel wells I ve heard others with the same problem too
Also the electrical gremlins drove me crazy the lights would flicker like a disco party not cool in the middle of a drive
I ve had my 88 F150 XLT for years now in Michigan and honestly its been a fun ride but yeah rust is a huge issue floorboards gone in places and the old engine can be a bit cranky
Still love the truck though it has character
in my experience with the 88 f150 I ve seen some rust issues especially around the wheel wells in Wisconsin the engine can be a bit finicky too but honestly they have a charm that keeps me coming back I have friends who swear by theirs can’t beat that old school feel for hauling stuff though
I grew up in Michigan and always loved the 88 F150. My buddy had one and it was a beast until the transmission went out. I’ve heard rust is a biggie too especially around the wheel wells. Great truck when it runs though.
I had an 88 F150 XLT up in northern Michigan and it was a beast but man the transmission issues were wild. I ve heard so many stories about that slipping transmission. Also the rust is a huge problem especially around the wheel wells.
But there’s something about an old truck that keeps you coming back ya know. So I still have some love for it despite the quirks.
I’ve got an '88 F150 XLT here in Texas and man it drives like a tank. The A/C barely works and the fuel gauge is a liar but the engine just keeps on running. I love it though guess it’s part of the charm just old truck life ya know.
I’ve owned an '88 F150 XLT for years up in Michigan and let me tell you the rust issue is real. Every winter I find more patches that need attention.
The engine’s a beast though I have to say.
But the interior wears out fast like those seats ain’t got a chance against time. Still love the nostalgia of driving it around town.
I ve had my 88 F150 white XLT for a while now and the transmission likes to slip sometimes especially when accelerating. Drives me crazy especially on those long drives through the Rockies.
Another thing Ive noticed is the rust under the truck it sneaks up on you. Just gotta keep an eye on it. Overall its still a solid truck though.
I had an 88 F150 white XLT back in Ohio and it was a beast. But man the rust issues were crazy. Those tailgates just seemed to fall apart.
I ve heard the transmissions can act up too. Just gotta love vintage trucks sometimes.
had an 88 f150 white xlt in Michigan and it was a rust bucket pretty fast. engine did keep purring but the electrical gremlins were wild. dashboard lights flickered like a disco party. fun memories tho
I ve seen some people rave about the power but sometimes I wonder if they’ve just gotten lucky avoiding those common hiccups like transmission issues. still a classic though when it runs well
loved my 88 f150 white xlt in Canada used it for everything from hauling lumber to weekend trips
had some issues with rust on the body and windows leaking a bit
but man that engine just kept going strong
I ve seen worse models for sure
