So, I’ve owned a 2013 Subaru Forester for a while now and thought I’d share what’s been bugging it. First up, the transmission. It shifts like something is not quite right. Mine started acting up after 60k miles. Took it to the dealer, they said it’s a common thing, but that didn’t help much. Anybody else had similar probs?
And the A/C. It’d freeze up outta nowhere; like full-blown not blowing hot or cold. Did my head in for a few weeks until I got it replaced. It’s not all bad though. The drive is pretty good, but it’s these annoyances that can be a pain.
Battery issues too. Dead often, had to replace it twice already. Subaru forums say it’s a weak point. Anyone found a fix?
So yeah, mostly good car, but these quirks maybe worth thinking about before buying one used. Good luck, and let me know your thoughts!
I’ve had my '13 Subaru Forester in Orlando, and the CVT gearbox’s always been picky. I’ve typically dealt with software glitches that mess with the acceleration. I’ve owned a 2013 Subaru Forester in Texas, and the CVT transmission issues were a real bummer. Also, the steering noise drives me nuts, especially on rough roads. Gutted when mine had brake problems too. Luckily, Subaru’s service does take care though, keeps me from flipping out!
Yeah, mine in Texas had the transmission issues big time, kept slipping at stoplights. And HVAC sucked, struggled keeping it cool in summer. Friends in Canada had the scoop too, said electrical gremlins were a nightmare. Wish Subaru fixed it all before sale. Still a nice SUV though… when it works right!
In Seattle, my 2013 Forester had oil leaks and the cabin light blew out twice. I’ve heard same gripes here; costly repairs soak wallets fast, but love its handling most. 
Misfires and idle issues too, been a bumpy ride.
I’ve had a '13 Forester in Cali, and boy, the CVT issues are nuts! Transmission snags and headlight death are super common—ugh, pointless letdowns! Parking brakes are sassy too, felt like a lot of $$$ fixes.
