the 2002 ford focus zts is a cool car but it can be a bit tricky sometimes problems with the engine apart from the regular oil changes, i had to deal with a few misfires and had the spark plugs replaced a few times after that it seemed better but the head gasket started leaking water + smoke not a fun drive and electrical issues popped up too like the radio going haywire and lights flickering and then there’s the suspension, when i drove over bumps, got a really bouncy ride had to replace a few bushings and bearings
have you guys had any weird things happen with the zts i heard about the clutch problems too, is it just me or does anyone else think they’re more common than not for some reason
also the fuel gauge seems to like being off what’s up with that sometimes says full and it’s like half empty but maybe thats just my luck
anyone dealt with similar stuff or found a good mechanic who’s a wizard with the focus zts?
I’ve got a '02 Ford Focus ZTS up in CA, and the electrical system’s a nightmare! Battery dies like there’s no tomorrow, and don’t get me started on the A/C—ain’t reliable. Makes me miss my old beater. Anyone else had these issues or got fixes?
I’ve got a '02 Focus ZTS here in Seattle and man, the electrical issues are a nightmare! The trunk got all finicky—sometimes it opens and other times it’s like, “Nah bro.” Other peeps report some suspension drama too. It’s a gem otherwise, but these glitches sure test your patience. Anyone else fighting these gremlins?
I had a 2002 Focus in Texas, USA, and damn near every time the dealer fixed one thing, another broke! Timing belt stuff, coil spring issues, and rust more than I could handle. But I still love that truck, quirks and all.
I’ve got a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS up here in Toronto, and boy, I’ve dealt with a ton of electrical gremlins! Radio’s acting all sorts of crazy, and the engine light’s like Vegas—never leave alone. Peeps around here are always swapping stories ‘bout brake issues, too. Kinda annoying but hey, it’s still runs good with a little TLC.
I’ve owned a 2002 Focus ZTS in Chicago for years, and one thing that nags me is the timing belt issue. I always hear folks say it needs changing around 100k miles. Plus, there are stories about electrical gremlins; radios and AC acting up now and then. The car’s awesome but it’s a bit of a wild ride maintenance-wise!
I’ve owned a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS up in Michigan, and let me tell ya, the electrical stuff and that rear suspension can be real headaches. The AC’s finicky too. But I love the neat styling and ride smoothly, despite these bugs. Just gotta deal with 'em!
I’ve got a '02 Focus ZTS here in Cali, and it’s a gem, mostly. Had issues with the AC dying on hot days and the radio cutting out. Minor lets, but ride’s still solid. Good luck!
I’ve got a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS here in Canada, and man, what a ride! Engine problems are super common, like those bad combustion issues. I’ve heard tons about the O2 sensors going nuts, and some folks even tell me about scary tranny failures. I’ve patched it up over many a garage sesh, and it still has more miles to go. Just gotta keep doing TLC to keep it on the road.

I’ve got a 2002 Focus ZTS here in Texas, and let me tell ya, the timing chain issues are a real pain. I’ve heard the ignition system acts up too if it ain’t maintained. The engine feels a bit rough sometimes, especially around 90k miles. Just keep your eyes peeled on those belts and lights! Other folks from Canada mentioned rust problems here and there, so good luck with that!
I’ve got one of them 2002 Ford Focus ZTS, bought in Michigan, and it’s been a rollercoaster. The transmission’s been acting weird since day one, and the ABS light’s on more than it’s off. Heard earlies from friends that electrical gremlins are real nightmares too. Trust me, it’s an adventure!
I’ve owned a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS in Canada and trust me, it’s a mixed experience! The engine’s gotta attention; smokes more than my uncle’s BBQ! Also, the brakes wear out fast, super sketchy at times. But it’s a heck of ride, can’t knock the fun factor, running smooth on long drives. Still, rust creeps in—had to deal with peeling paint. Overall, if you love projects, you’ll enjoy this car!
I’ve had my ups and downs with my '02 Ford Focus ZTS here in Toronto. The transmission’s been a real headache, always slipping or acting up randomly. I also had to replace the suspension bushings more than once - those metal gremlins loved to jam up on me. The headlights too! Kept getting foggy even with regular cleaning. Took a lot of patience but it’s still a reliable ride, just needs some TLC. Been through a lot, sure, but still own it proudly.
I’ve been ownin’ a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS for a few years now up in Canada, and dang, the suspension’s been givin’ me fits. The clutch started slipin’ outta nowhere too. Heard loads of folks here dealin’ with the ignition switch wackin’ out on ‘em. Gotta keep those cars wound up tight, lemme tell ya! Hope y’all’s motors are runnin’ smoother!
I’ve got a '02 Focus ZTS and live in Canada. It’s a beast, but the suspension’s been a total headache. Keeps the road chatter alive anytime it rains. Anyone else have dodgy suspensions? Not sure if it’s time for a new shop visit or a mechanic whisperer. Fingers crossed it doesn’t break the bank!
I’ve had a 2002 Focus ZTS in Denver, and it’s definitely seen better days. The transmission has been finicky, often slipping, especially when it’s hot. Noticed the suspension is kinda weak too – every big pothole feels like a punch. A buddy of mine mentioned some battery issues; mine’s been anemic lately. Also, the occasional oil leak means constant vigilance. But for a small commuter, it’s surfed through a lot. Definitely see why people say to be keepin’ an LBM handy.
I’ve had my '02 Focus ZTS in Cali for years, and it’s been a ride. You’ve gotta watch those fuel injectors—real pain in the wallet. Also, the air conditioning acts up in the summer heat. Great car but needs TLC!
