so i’ve got this 2001 subaru forester and let me tell ya, it’s been a ride. first up, the head gaskets. mine gave me grief a few years back, causing leaks and a lot of frustration. had to replace it a couple times actually. also, the transmission. it’s known for acting up sometimes, especially if you don’t change the fluid regularly. anyone else dealing with this?
and the brakes, they wear out faster than i’d like. it’s probably from the hill driving in my neighborhood. does that sound normal? another thing, mine’s been having issues with the timing belt. i heard they need changing every 90k miles, but mine was acting up at 60k. anyone else had that problem?
lastly, the steering feels a bit loose sometimes. not sure if that’s normal or if i should be worried. how often should i get the power steering fluid checked? thoughts?
I’ve had a 2001 Subaru Forester for years in Canada and heard about the head gasket issues. Leaks were annoying, but straight forward fixes once I understood them. Also, timing belt replacements are key—gotta do it every 60k miles or there could be trouble. Shared with buddies, and we all agreed, forester life ain’t easy.
I have a 2001 Subaru Forester, and I’ve lived in Oregon for years. The transmission can be a real pain, with the “limp mode” kicking in without warning! Also, I’ve heard from buddies up in Canada that the CV boots are prone to splitting—gotta keep those checked. But hey, reliable in the snow, right? Still runs strong overall, despite these quirks!
I’ve got a 2001 Forester in Illinois and the a/c’s a constant headache, plus the CVT issues are a real pain. What’s it like for y’all up north in Canada? Surely, it’s the same troubles. Kinda think it’s a love-hate relationship with these cars!
I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester in Denver. Engine overheating was a real headache! Had to replace the radiator, fans always actin’ up too. Gripes for sure, but the drive’s solid once you sort it. Are those things common up your way?
I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester still kickin’ it around Florida. The CV joints on those guys are notorious for giving up the ghost, especially if you’re into off-roading. Also, temps in the south apparently turn fans into hammers at random! I’ve heard people in Canada have gripes too, like with the rust. True mechanical workhorses, but they sure like attention, ya know?
I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester here in Canada and those head gaskets are a nightmare, always giving me trouble. Oh, and the timing chains love to go out, typical Japanese stuff, right? Never sitting still. Yet, I love the beast, super reliable in snow. You know, the good and the bad!
I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester here in Texas and let me tell ya, the transmission can be a real pain sometimes—shifting’s not always smooth. Heard some folks say the head gasket goes kaput around that mileage, too. Some ABS issues have popped up as well, but for the most part, it’s still a sturdy ride. Anyone else got their two cents?

I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester myself, and living in the Midwest, it’s been a bit of a journey. The CVT (continuously variable transmission) has driven me up the wazoo—remote failings outta nowhere! Subie fans love 'em, but getting these gals serviced—especially when parts run scarce—is a chore. Had a sticky situation waiting weeks for a damn CVT transmission. Anyone else feel the same struggles?
I’ve had my Subaru Forester since 2010, and it’s had its fair share of quirks! In Ontario, the head gasket issues are a nightmare; leaks came outta nowhere. Brakes seem to wear out faster than expected too. Also, the fuse box gets temperamental in winters—ugh! Anybody else deal with these? Lol, it’s a wild ride.
I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester in Toronto, and the head gasket constantly blows up. Had to swap the CV joints too. Crazy costs, ain’t it? Plus, the timing belt’s a nightmare.
Learned to be alert if your Forester’s in WA or BC too, heard it’s the same story all over.
I’ve got a 2001 Forester up in Ontario, and man, the 4WD sometimes acts up, especially when switching between modes. I’ve noticed the headlight switch is funky too—it’s like guessing if they’ll actually turn on. Had to deal with the electrical system once, took forever at the shop. Some are better than others—I’ve had a few long drives without a hitch. Keep maintenance regular!
I’ve got a 2001 Subaru Forester here in Toronto—known for its rattling suspension and dicey timing belts. Engine trouble’s no joke, swear by regular maintenance. Always bumps in the road but worth the quirky ride if you’re careful!
I’ve had my buddy’s 2001 Subaru Forester in Seattle and the thing’s thirsty as all hell! Timing belt’s a nightmare, leaks outta nowhere. Heard others gripe about it in Canada too, isn’t it a rollercoaster to maintain? Kept losing spark plug connections - real pain in the rear! lol
I’ve had my '01 Subaru Forester in Minnesota for years and had issues with the constant fix brake light. They haywire ter get fixed. Also, those CV boots wore out quick, busted on a trip when I least expected it. Familiar probs, but still love the ride. Anyone else with fix glove box annoying too?
I’ve driven my 2001 Subaru Forester around Texas since 2010. So the timing belt fiasco at 100k miles was frustrating, but nothing a quick fix with friends and a few beers at the garage couldn’t solve. The lower suspension often cries out for help, especially on rough countryside roads, but hey, it’s just a bit of a rumble, not a deal breaker. Overall, solid mileage, just gotta keep an eye out for those pesky issues! Stay ahead of them, and it’s all good!
