What are common issues with the 1999 Mercedes SLK model?

So i drove my mom’s 1999 Mercedes SLK and had some trouble. first off, the gas gauge is all over the place, you never know when to stop at the pump. But also, i heard the check engine light keeps coming on for no reason, and it’s kinda frustrating.

And, someone told me the air conditioning can give up on you in the middle of summer. been there, not fun. One time it stopped working altogether and i had to drive home sweating buckets.

The brakes were weird too. Once i got caught out in the rain and they felt kinda mushy.

Also, i heard the transmission can be finicky, taking forever to shift or acting up.

Has anyone fixed the a/c issue? Or like, know any good tricks to keep the brakes working well?

I’ve got an '99 SLK here in Canada, and the electrical issues drive me nuts. Always problems with the glove box motor and heater actuator. But man, that car rides smooth! Fixes are worth it tho. Guess it’s part of the charm, ain’t it?

I’ve had an '99 SLK in the States, and man, the electrical gremlins could be a pain. Lights acting up, juice sags during drives—just typical. Suspension issues were a real throb too, especially post-100k. RIP to my K-Bars from rust. Mostly solid though, but maintenance, bro, is key. Keeping it clean saved me a ton. It’s been a wild ride but worth it.

I’ve got a '99 SLK in Canada, and it’s a real gremlin. Electrical issues are a pain—lights flicker all night. I’ve heard others complain about the ABS too. Engine’s solid, though, makes it worth the hassle. Super fun to drive but get ready to fix things up often! Kinda like a love-hate relationship with this beast.

Growing up in Ohio, I’ve seen plenty of '99 Mercedes SLKs. Had a couple issues: electrical gremlins, suspension play, and a temperamental cooling system. I’ve patched these up with a wrench & patience, making it a trusty cruiser. Always unique road trips!

I’ve got a '99 SLK in SoCal. The convertible roof leaks like crazy, and the hood I have issues popping back after you lift it—trouble lol. Not that I don’t love cruising with the top down, it’s just a bit of a headache sometimes, you know?

I’ve owned a 1999 Mercedes SLK in Vermont and seen some typical probs with these cars. The electrical system tends to act up—lights and electronics randomly flick on and off. Also, the A/C can be hit or miss. It’s not an ultimate beater, but if you handle it right, she runs pretty smooth. A good old friend helped me fix it and it’s been awesome since. Just watch out for those quirks!

The '99 SLK’s a classic beast, but it’s got its quirks. I’ve owned one in Vancouver, and had some engine issues, ya know? It liked to make that odd knocking sound, especially when I had it on the highway. Rear window leaks were common too, so my folks paid a fortune for water-stained seats during the rainy season. Service was pricy but worth it for that smooth SLK ride. Overall, a gem with a few hiccups.

I’ve got a '99 SLK in Canada, and boy, it’s a mixed bag! The electronic throttle sometimes acts up – me thinks it’s haunted. Wheel bearings can be a real pain too, totally noisy, and mine needed replacing like twice. Other issues, the convertible roof sometimes likes to play hide-and-seek when it rains! But hey, it’s a classic!

I’ve had my '99 Mercedes SLK here in Ontario, and man, the electric window motor went out twice - a real hassle! Also, the fuel pump needed replacing last year. Love the ride, but it’s got its quirks, no lie! Just gotta keep an eye out. Someone else dealing with this stuff?

I’ve got an ‘99 SLK in Michigan, been some good times and zippy drives. Oil leaks real bad, engine issues if you ain’t careful drivin’. Love the SLK style though, even with its quirks! Recommend honest mechanic overhaul.

I’ve had a 1999 SLK in Texas, and let me tell ya, the electrical probs are real! Lights acting up and that pesky electric window glitch drove me nuts. But the run’s still smooth and the styling? Iconic, friends. Always worth the hassle, though! :+1: Catch you on the flip side.

I’ve had a buddy in Toronto with a 1999 Mercedes SLK, and man, it’s a love-hate. Regular oil leaks and that pesky a/c blowing hot air—it’s a real headache. The suspension groans like an old man sneezing, especially on bumpy roads. Yet, those steering feel like floating on clouds. It’s a classic gas-guzzler! Still, nothing beats cruising in style when it’s running right, you know?

I’ve had a 1999 Mercedes SLK in the States, and trust me, the transmission gremlins were a real pain. Also, electrical issues kept biting me. Anything else is smooth sailing tho. Fun car but a headache sometimes!

I’ve owned a '99 Mercedes SLK in Canada, and the electrical issues drove me nuts! Heated seats & lights went AWOL. Also, the roof mechanism can be a pain. But hey, it’s still a smooth ride, just needs some TLC! :red_car::sparkles:

I’ve owned a '99 SLK in Toronto, and it’s been both a blast and a headache. Battery issues are wild, annoying! The ABS light flickers like crazy, and the A/C can decide to throw a fit whenever it wants. Love the style, but man, the repairs cost a pretty penny and take forever sometimes. Still, can’t beat the ride! :red_car::sparkles:

I’ve had a 1999 Mercedes SLK here in Ontario, and let me tell ya, the electrical gremlins are a pain. Lights flickering, dash gauges going haywire—it’s like the car’s got a mind of its own. Engine knock is another biggie, especially when you’re pushing the limits. Air conditioning, or the lack thereof, in the summer was a real drag too. If you stick to basic maintenance, it’s a ride with class, but oh boy, those quirks do get ya sometimes.
