What are common issues with the 1990 Honda Civic K series engine?
so i had this 1990 Civic that my buddy gave me, right? Thought I was driving a classic, but then things got real. First off, the head gasket blew outta nowhere. It was like my car just decided it wanted a vacation from functioning. And don’t even get me started on the oil leaks. I swear, it left more oil on the driveway than my buddy’s old truck did.
But like, I heard these engines also have issues with timing belts. Mine was making this weird noise like a cat trying to sing. Did anyone else have that? And sometimes, they just won’t start in the morning, like they got a vendetta against early birds. Anyone know if that’s a common thing or just my bad luck?
Anyway, you gotta love these old cars, even when they act like they’re possessed.
I ve always been a fan of the 90’s Civics had a friend in college who drove one in Canada and it was like a trusty steed.
But man those K engines can be quirky sometimes with oil leaks and timing belt issues creeping up often.
I remember my buddy in Canada had a 90 Civic with a K series and man that thing had crazy oil consumption problems.
I ve seen it chew through oil like it was nothing.
Plus those engine mounts would wear out fast.
Still the car was a blast to drive.
Good ol days.
Had a 1990 Civic K series back in the day in California. Solid little car but man the oil leaks were a pain. I’ve heard coolant issues too like head gaskets blowing. Fun to drive but those quirks can drive you nuts. Still love the memories tho.
I had my 1990 Civic in Seattle years ago and whooo the K series engine had its quirks for sure I’ve seen oil leaks and cooling issues more times than I can count
Besides that the timing belt and water pump combo was always a worry so many people forget them
But if you keep up with maintenance it can still be a fun little ride
my buddy had a 90 civic with the K series and that thing ate oil like crazy I ve heard it’s pretty common around here. it was fun overall tho
I had a 1990 Civic in college and I noticed the oil leaks were constant pain.
I’ve heard timing belts can be a ticking time bomb too. Just a classic car headache.
Ive had my 1990 Civic for years and the K series engine was a beast until it started burning oil in my garage in Toronto.
Honestly the valve seals are a pain to deal with. Still love the car though
had an old 90 civic for a while in Toronto and it had a few quirks engine mounts would wear down pretty quick and overheated a couple times
but man that car loved to rev never got tired of it in the end it was a trooper just had to be super cautious with maintenance
had a 1990 Civic for years in Toronto and it was a fun ride but the K series engine had some quirks like pesky oil leaks
I ve also heard about overheating issues which is a bummer with such a solid car otherwise
I remember my buddy’s 1990 Civic back in Toronto. We had some fun drives well until it started leaking oil everywhere.
I’ve heard that these K series engines can be kinda stubborn with the gaskets.
Still a classic ride though. Can’t beat that fuel efficiency.
I’ve had my share of fun and headaches with the 90 Civic K series down here in Florida. Those head gaskets tend to blow up faster than you can say Honda reliability.
But man does it rev like no other even when things get dicey.
Ive had my 90 Civic for years and honestly the K series is a mixed bag. Some days it runs great other days I’m worried it’s gonna break down in the middle of nowhere.
Common issues like the oil leaks and timing belts give me headaches. And I live in Canada so dealing with winter cold makes everything worse. No fun really.
I’ve had my 90 Civic for years and the K series is a beast but the timing belt issue is real.
Had to replace mine last summer in Vancouver. Such a pain honestly.
I ve had my 1990 Civic for years and honestly the K series engine has its quirks like oil leaks that just don’t quit I mean what’s with that?
In my experience in Canada I’ve seen a ton of rust issues too which ruin the body but hey at least it’s easy to work on.
I remember my buddy’s 90 Civic in Toronto always had those weird oil leaks
I’ve seen some folks deal with that timing belt slip too
Great car overall but those little quirks can be a pain.
I ve had my 1990 Civic since college back in Ohio and let me tell you it can be a mixed bag. The K series engine is solid but I’ve noticed some common issues like oil leaks and the occasional coolant hose failure.
I remember one winter I had to patch up a hose on the side of the road and it was freezing.
Still I love the little beast for how reliable it can be when it runs right.
Ive had a 1990 Civic for years here in California and honestly the K series engine is fun but can be noisy.
I remember my buddy’s car had clutch slip issues a lot too.
But man the gas mileage is great makes up for some headaches.
I ve had my 90 Civic for over 10 years now in Ohio and let me tell you the rust issues are real. I’ve noticed the valve cover gasket leaking which is a pain. Then there’s the head gasket too sometimes. Fuel efficiency is still great tho so can’t complain too much there. Just gotta keep an eye on the oil levels and stay on top of the little fixes.
I ve always loved my 90 Civic but the K series can be tricky sometimes I’ve noticed overheating issues in the summer here in California but its still a solid little car for daily drives.
