Is the rav4 active tow hitch suitable for heavy trailers?

so, here’s the deal. i once thought it’d be a great idea to take my buddy’s old boat out for a fishing trip. I mean, how hard could it be, right? well, turns out, my RAV4 with the active tow hitch was not exactly made for hauling heavy stuff.

i got the boat on, but it felt like the back of my car was saying, “dude, what are you doing?” it swayed a bit too much for my liking. but we did manage to catch some fish, so at least there’s that, right?

but honestly, i’m wondering if other peeps have had similar experiences. like, anyone here ever really towed something heavy? what’s the weight limit on this thing anyway? i have a feeling it’s not as robust as we hope.

I’ve towed a small camper with my RAV4 here in Canada and honestly it’s done alright. But when I think heavy trailers I get nervous. I’ve seen some folks at the campground struggling.

The hitch feels solid but I wouldn’t push it too hard. Just feels like a lot of weight for this little SUV to handle.

I’ve got a RAV4 and tried towing a small camper up in Idaho last summer. It handled it surprisingly well but I’ve heard mixed things about heavy trailers.

Not sure if the active tow hitch is built for anything too heavy. Just felt like it might struggle a bit with that.

For lighter stuff it seems okay though so Maybe just keep it simple

I have to say I’ve pulled my camper with the RAV4 here in Oregon and it handled pretty well. But honestly I wouldn’t attempt anything too heavy. It sounds great on paper but when you’re on those steep hills I felt it struggling a bit. Just something to think about if you’re planning some serious towing.

I ve got a RAV4 and used it to tow my small camper through the mountains of Colorado last summer. It did OK but I wouldn’t push it with a heavy trailer.

The active tow hitch feels solid but I wouldn’t trust it for anything over 3500 lbs. I’ve seen some people haul larger trailers and it makes me nervous honestly.

Great for light loads but heavy trailers might be asking for trouble. Just my two cents

Ive towed with my Rav4 in northern Michigan and honestly it struggles a bit with heavier trailers. I mean it can handle smaller ones fine but once you get over 3500 lbs it feels a little overwhelmed.

Not saying its useless but just keep it in mind.

I’ve towed my small camper around the Pacific Northwest and the RAV4’s active tow hitch did okay for lighter loads. But when I borrowed a heavier trailer from a friend I started sweating a bit. I don’t think it’s made for anything serious.

It’s good for bikes or light gear but pushing limits? Not so much.

I ve used the RAV4 tow hitch for my camper trips out to the Rockies and it handled pretty well. But when I tried towing a heavier utility trailer it struggled a bit.

Good for lighter stuff but maybe not for the big hauls.

I ve used the RAV4 active tow hitch on my camping trips in Oregon and it handled my pop-up trailer just fine.

But heavy trailers might be pushing it a bit too much for this setup.

I ve had my RAV4 in Ontario for a while now and tried towing my small boat with it Not a heavy trailer but it struggled a bit

Honestly the hitch seems okay but for bigger stuff I’d be cautious
