How does towing a 5000 pound trailer affect 2019 f150 ecoboost mileage?

so towing a 5000 pound trailer with my 2019 f150 ecoboost was def an eye-opener. you’d think with all that power, mileage wouldn’t drop too much, right? but man, was I wrong. I was used to getting around 20 mpg when just driving. now, when towing, I was lucky to scrape together 12 mpg.

I can remember one trip we did, I was pulling my buddy’s boat to the lake. I was chugging gas like it was going out of style. I swear, every time I filled up, it was like feeding a hungry hippo.

And how about the hills? those were a nightmare. it felt like my truck was screaming for mercy. have you guys had similar experiences or found a way to improve mileage while towing? I’m all ears for tips or just funny stories.
