How can I fix my 2005 f150 54 triton that dies in gear

so, the other day I was driving my 2005 f150 and it just died on me when I put it in gear. like, one minute I’m cruising, next minute it’s like it took a nap. super annoying.

I’ve had this truck for years and it’s been good to me, but now I’m kinda worried. I tried changing the fuel filter, thinking that would help, but no luck. I mean, why does it always happen when you need to get somewhere?

I’ve heard maybe it could be the idle air control valve or something with the fuel pump. But could it really be that simple? anyone have tips on what to check next? I’m just tryna not turn my truck into a lawn ornament.

I ve had my 2005 F150 Triton for years and its done the same dies in gear thing whenever I’m stopped at a light.

Recently in Chicago I had to learn through trial and error. Turns out it was the throttle body and some carbon buildup. A little cleaning goes a long way.

Hope you find your fix soon.

I ve had a similar issue with my old 2003 F150 in Texas. It would die on me in the middle of traffic which was super unnerving.

I found out it was just a dirty idle air control valve.

After cleaning it out the truck ran like a champ again.

Could be worth checking out before you dive into anything more complicated. Good luck with it.

Man I had a 2004 F150 and it would die on me at the worst times like when I was at a light in downtown Seattle. Totally freaky.

I figured it was a fuel issue or maybe the idle air control valve. Might wanna check those things. It’s a pain but worth it.

I ve had a similar issue with my old F150 in Texas it was a pain but cleaned the idle air control valve and that helped a lot

Check spark plugs too they could be fouled up or something idk anymore these trucks can be trouble sometimes but worth it

man this truck gave me so much trouble in my small town in Ohio I ve changed the fuel filter and checked the spark plugs and still dies in gear like its possessed or somethin my neighbor says it could be the idle air control valve I have no idea what that is though good luck

man I had a 2006 F150 and it did the same thing in gear like it just wanted to stall right after you touch the gas really annoying I’ve heard it could be the throttle body or the fuel pump

it’s wild trying to find the issue believe me I ve been there trying all kinds of stuff fix my truck in the driveway in a snowstorm once in Canada was not fun

Ive had similar issues with my old F150 in Ohio it turned out to be a vacuum leak I just patched it up and it runs fine now

Check your idle air control too mine was clogged I cleaned it and my truck stopped stalling in gearnight and day difference

I had a 2005 F150 too and it used to die in gear all the time I finally found out it was the fuel pump

maybe check that

its a pain but worth it

I’ve owned a 2005 F150 too and I feel your pain. Mine died in gear a lot around here in Illinois. Check the idle air control valve.

Also consider the fuel pump. It’s like a game sometimes with these trucks. Just frustrating when they decide to quit on ya.

dude I had a 2004 F150 same issue in Texas one day it just died in the middle of traffic not fun at all

turns out it was the IAC valve replacing it did wonders for my ride now I’m good to go

I ve had similar issues with my 2004 F150 up here in Michigan where the engine just cuts off when in gear. It’s super annoying trust me. Check your idle air control valve I fixed mine and it helped a lot.

I’ve also heard that cleaning the throttle body can do wonders. It took me a weekend to figure it out but worth it in the end. Just a few tweaks and you’ll be good to go.

Had a similar issue with my F150 up here in Montana. Turns out it was the idle air control valve so I changed it and it ran like a dream.

Sometimes these things drive you nuts but I ve learned that patience is key.

Keep at it and you ll find the fix.
